BATAVIA EXPRESS

* We have received reports that bulk carrier, BATAVIA EXPRESS, experienced a fire in a cargo hold while sailing West of Cape Town, South Africa on 15 September 2023.

* According to reports, the vessel was towed by firefighting tugs to Saldanha Bay anchorage, South Africa and later moved to Cape Town anchorage while still being on fire.

* The fire was extinguished on 22 September and the vessel remains at Cape Town where inspections and investigations into the cause of the fire will take place.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
